Law makers in New Jersey and Chicago received a letter this month from former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, outlining his reasons for not including fingerprint checks when they are checking criminal records, of potential drivers.
Holder’s reason for not requiring a fingerprint check from the FBI database was to prevent discrimination against minorities. He explained that a person may be in the fingerprint database even if they were never convicted of the crime.
Eric Holder was quated as saying ‘‘It was not designed to be used to determine whether or not someone is eligible for work opportunity. Relying on it for that purpose is both unwise and unfair,’’
